ToT / PE in Kailali
In cooperation with World Vision Nepal, ECEC has been working on a course to train community workers to teach parents about everything concerning bringing up small children in a way that supports their healthy development in all areas.
In the village there are quite a few things considered normal that don’t support an optimal development of a young child:
- prenatal care aspects: no awareness of the consequences of using alcohol, medicines and cigarettes during pregnancy
- new mothers are considered unclean and have to look entirely after themselves and the baby
- some healthy foods (green vegetables) are considered not suitable for a new mother
- there is no safe environment; quite a lot of preventable accidents happen, like burning to mention just a few.
And if the children are not taken care of in a proper way from conception onwards, the children won’t develop to their potential.
A team of 3 ECEC trainers has been teaching a mix van content and methodology : what to teach and how to teach when dealing with the parents; spread out over 2 separate weeks.

It were full days with lots of different activities: small group discussions

Practicing using puppets in parent education
Learning new songs and games to teach to the parents to be used with there children

Special Trainees
Recently we have conducted a very special version of our 5 days basic preschool teacher training: all the trainees were blind.

Our production department has been busy for weeks preparing special adjusted teaching aids: a domino game which different pictures can be felt by touch, a ball that you can hear etc.

It was quite a challenge for our teacher trainers to adjust the course for those special trainees, but it was very rewarding. |
